A young man (20) has been charged with murder of a woman following an incident in 'Uiha, Ha'apai, last week, confirmed Deputy Police Commander Taniela Faletau.

The charge relates to the death of a 33 year old woman on the night of Wednesday, April 1 in 'Uiha.

He said details of the incident could not be released now, but the accused had appeared at the Ha'apai Magistrate's Court on Tuesday, April 7 and would appear again in court on April 28.

The man remains in police custody.

This is the second murder charge in Tonga this year. The first was in Vaini on February 21, where a 30-year-old man was charged with the murder of a 22-year-old woman.
