Nuku'alofa, Tonga

Monday, February 23, 2009 - 09:12.  Updated on Thursday, February 12, 2015 - 21:38.

The case of the 59-year-old Chinese naturalised Tongan woman charged with attempted murder and other crimes will be tried in the Nuku'alofa Supreme Court.

Police Magistrate Samiu Palu at the conclusion of the Preliminary Inquiry on February 19, ruled there was a prima facie against the accused Yang Yu Zheng and ordered it be submitted to the Supreme Court for trial.

This was after Police Prosecutor Mema Latu called a total of 10 witnesses to testify, including the complainant a naturalised Tongan man Zheng Feng (40).

He alleged that on January 29, the accused shot at him with a pistol at a farm in Tokomololo.

Police Prosecutor Mema Latu said the arraignment of the trial is set for April.
