A 22-year-old Toshiba Brave Lupus rugby player in Tokyo has been suspended indefinitely after testing positive for marijuana on Friday, February 13.

According to the Japan Rugby Football Union (JRFU) Christian Loamanu, a Tongan national was first tested on January 12, after the Japan Rugby Top League match between Toshiba Brave Lupus and Suntory Sungoliath at Ajinomoto Stadium in Tokyo.

He denied taking the drug and he was again tested and was reconfirmed positive on February 13.

As a result the JRFU Disciplinary Committee have since suspended Loamanu indefinitely from playing in any official rugby games in Japan, and Toshiba who won the Microsoft Cup 2009, has released Loamanu from the club.

"Prohibited substances have no place in the world of rugby," says Noboru Mashimo, JRFU Vice President and Chairman.

In the spirit of Rugby values, Toshiba has also withdrawn from the semi-final of the All Japan Championship and will create a new management team for their disciplinary management with a focus on Anti-Doping, said the Union.

This is the second Tongan rugby player to have been let go from the Toshiba rugby club, Vivili Iongi has returned to Tonga this month for an alleged theft in Shibuya, Tokyo.
