Emergency Powers extended to February 16 [1]

Tonga's Emergency Powers (Public Safety and Public Security Regulations 2008) been renewed for another 30 days, until February 16, 2009.

The Deputy Secretary of the Prime Minister's Office, Paula Ma'u, said today they received a recommendation from the Minister Police for a further extension of the Emergency Regulations, effective from Sunday, January 18.

The Emergency Powers (Public Safety and Public Security 2008) was last extended from December 19, 2008 and expired on Saturday, January 17.

The new 30 days extension will expire on Monday, February 16.
