Graduation day road accident kills four Liahona teenagers [1]

Four Liahona High School boys were killed in a road accident at Lomaiviti on Friday evening, October 31,the Deputy Police Commander Taniela Faletau confirmed today.

The teenagers were named as George Uata, Francis Tafuna, Sailosi Paea 'Otuafi Jr., and James Talanoa.

Two survivors are Maile Mataele (18) who remains in hospital and Dean Sekona (17).

Dep. Comdr Faletau said that a RAV4 four-wheel drive vehicle, which carried six boys aged between 17-18 years old from Liahona High School, was heading west on Hala Loto at Lomaiviti.

The vehicle sped and overtook a vehicle, which resulted in the 18 year-old driver loosing control of the wheel and the vehicle crashed into a tree on the left hand side of the road at around 4:30pm.

He confirmed four of the boys died at the scene of the crash including the driver, identified as George Uata, while two survivors were rushed to Vaiola Hospital. One of the survivors suffered minor injuries and was released the same evening, while the other remains in hospital.

The boys who died were from Tofoa, Matangiake, Ha'ateiho and Kolomotu'a but residing at Liahona in Tongatapu.

The boys were attending Liahona High School's Graduation ceremony earlier in the day and were returning to the school compound when the accident took place.
