Non Governmental Organisations, social workers, civil society organizations and individuals in Fiji, Tonga, Kiribati, Tuvalu and Nauru are now encouraged to apply for funding for small-scale development grants.
The amount of funding available under this grant is up to US $25000 (approx. $44, 000 FJD), under the Embassy of the United States' Pacific Island Fund for Small Development Grants
These grants are for projects that promote democratic institutions and practices, support education and youth programs, and/or strengthen policies that mitigate adverse affects of issues relating to climate change, such as energy security, adaptation, and development of clean technologies.
"This is our way of engaging with civil society to make a difference at the grassroots level. The Pacific Island Fund for Small Development Grants in particular aims to assist women, youth, and disadvantaged groups"
Interested parties can submit their project proposals for consideration at the United States Embassy in Suva, Fiji. Proposals addressing social welfare, food security, and minority group issues will be evaluated as a secondary priority.
"We encourage civil society and NGO...s to contact us at the Embassy to request feedback on their proposals to ensure a greater chance of being funded."
Further information including guidelines and requirements for proposals can be obtained from the US Embassy in Suva, Fiji. US Embassy, Fiji, 21/10/08.
