The Legislative Assembly of Tonga will convene its sitting on Tuesday, 9 June 2026, to continue deliberation on the 2026/2027 Budget Estimates, after the Public Holiday on Monday..

Top on the Parliament's agenda will be reporting from the Finance and Public Accounts Committee on their review of the 2026 Budget.

This week, the members of Parliament were learning more about the 2026/2027 budget estimates, in a budget briefing workshop led by the Committee and Library Division of the Legislative Assembly of Tonga.

The Speaker of Parliament, Lord Vaea, said one of the main roles of Parliament is passing the budget, but it comes with great challenges because it requires financial and technical knowledge.

He said it is vital to ensure that the highest level of support and assistance is provided for members of Parliament to help them pass the budget. It is important for members to have a solid understanding of the budget in order to make informed decisions.

The analysis was carried out by 12 staff of the Legislative Assembly of Tonga from the Legal, Committee and Library, Corporate and Monitoring and Evaluation divisions.

The New Zealand government assisted the workshop through the UNDP.
