Two new cases of dengue fever cases have been detected, making the total number of the current dengue fever outbreak a total of 38 confirmed cases, the Ministry of Heath reported as of 26 April 2026.

Four cases are currently hospitalized, where three cases are admitted at Princess Fusipala Hospital, Ha’apai and one case admitted at Vaiola Hospital.

The majority of cases reported are among the age group of 11 -14 years, predominantly male, and highest in Tongatapu.

There are no dengue-related deaths reported to date.

Meanwhile, vector control activities are ongoing, including insecticide spraying in affected schools and continued community clean-up and spraying to reduce mosquito breeding.

Response teams are distributing mosquito repellents and bed nets to households with confirmed dengue cases.

Public recommendations:

• Eliminate mosquito breeding sites around homes, schools, and workplaces.
• Use mosquito protection such as bed nets, repellents, and wearing long-sleeved clothing, especially during peak biting times
• Seek medical care early if you develop dengue fever symptoms and follow health advices from the Ministry of Health
• Support community clean-up activities

Dengue fever symptoms:

• Fever for at least 2 days (≥38◦C)
• Severe headache
• Pain behind the eyes
• Joint and muscle pain
• Nausea
• Vomiting
• Swollen glands
• Rash that appears 3-4 days after fever begins

Severe symptoms that require immediate medical attention:

• Abdominal pain
• Bleeding tendency
• Persistent vomiting
