Retail prices for all petroleum in Tongatapu remain unchanged while prices for kerosene is increased by 5 seniti/litre starting this week, 5 November, due to a combination of influences.
The Ministry of Trade and Economic Development advised that the petroleum price is based on the September 2025 average of the published daily Mean of Platts Singapore (MOPS) benchmark prices for product prices and freight, along with that month’s exchange rate.
The Tongan pa’anga strengthened slightly against the US dollar.
MTED reported that the average Brent crude oil price for September was US$67.58/bbl higher than in August. Petrol prices increased during September until mid-month when China issued a third batch of export quotas for 2025 which raised the prospect of increased supply offsetting some of the increases seen earlier in the month. Diesel prices increased during September due to supply concerns following the drone attacks on key Russian refineries, Kerosene prices also increased during September due to supply concerns following the drone attacks on key Russian refineries.
The freight prices were higher in September compared to August, due to a late increase in prices during August. This trend impacted August’s average supply less than September’s supply. However, by mid-September the market softened due to high demand for long-haul shipping rushed to commit to their vessels when prices were high, so the demand dropped after these commitments.
The combined effects mean that the retail prices for all petroleum products for Tongatapu will remain the same, while kerosene prices increase by 5 seniti/litre.
