OFC U-19 Women’s Championship kicks off in Tahiti today [1]

Tonga’s Junior Mataliki team will compete in the U-19 Women’s Football Championship, which kicks off in Tahiti today, 22 September.
Tonga is in Group A alongside Cook Islands and Fiji and plays its first match against Cook Island sat 2:00pm today (Tonga time), followed by a match against Fiji on Sunday.
The championship will see seven Pacific countries, including Cook Islands, Fiji, New Caledonia, New Zealand, Tahiti, Tonga and Vanuatu, face off for the final two spots.
The two finalists from this championship will automatically qualify for the FIFA U-20 World Cup held in Poland next year.
The Qualifiers stage for the U-19 Championship was held in Tonga on March, where the Mataliki girls dominated the field.
Tonga defeated American Samoa and Solomon Islands in the qualifiers earlier this year, securing their spot at the championship.
