The Legislative Assembly began its session today with a moment of silence in remembrance of the late Lord Lasike, the former Speaker of Parliament, who passed away recently.

He died at the age of 67, due to illness, on 28 May.

Lord Lasike was first elected to the Legislative Assembly as a Noble representative for Tongatapu in a 2005 by-election.

He was re-elected in 2008 and 2010, and on 21 December 2010, he was elected Speaker of the House.

He is survived by wife, Sandra Lasike and their child.

Meanwhile, the Parliament this week is proceeding with discussions on the 2025/2026 budget.
