Three newly renovated and highly upgraded operating theatres for Vaiola Hospital, were commissioned today, 19 May, in Nuku'alofa.

This project was financially supported by the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (LDS) in partnership with the Plymouth Brethren Church, the Rotary Club, and the Ministry of Health.

The new operating theaters feature stainless steel interiors, along with advanced heating, specialised ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC) technology, incorporated by a team from Pharma Tech Industries, from India.

The operating theatres are equipped with anti-static vinyl flooring, a surgeon control panel, medical gas terminal units, LED surgical lights, stainless steel scrub station, and have undergone thorough electrical and final validation and testing.

Pharma Tech Industries Director, Dr. Namratha Mangalore said the OT will be fully operational tomorrow, and will significantly enhance surgical care for thousands of patients each year.

Their team will be providing on-site training to the hospital's maintenance, biomedical, and nursing teams.

From the LDS Church, Elder Sione F. Tu’ione said the Church is proud to help Tongans become healthier.

Whanganui North Rotary Club, Dr. John Van Dalen who joined the program virtually said, “The new upgraded operating theatres at Vaiola hospital are state-of-the-art and will ensure improved surgical outcomes for the Tongan community for many years to come.”
