This year’s theme, “On the Side of Humanity,” celebrates the efforts of millions of volunteers worldwide, and commemorates the legacy of Red Cross founder Henry Dunant.
The Tonga Red Cross Society has served communities for 64 years since August 1961, providing disaster response, health initiatives, and youth empowerment programs guided by the fundamental principles.
British High Commissioner Philip Malone paid tribute to Red Cross volunteers and staff worldwide and in Tonga who support those in need. "Their commitments and bravery are inspiring -whether responding to natural disasters, providing medical care in conflict zones, or supporting communities in health crisis, the Red Cross is always there ready to lend a helping hand," he noted.
To honour Red Cross founder Henry Dunant's legacy, TRCS encouraged Tongans to wear red ribbons as a symbol of hope, unity, and the collective commitment to stand on the side of humanity.
Attending the event were students from 'Ahopanilolo Technical Institute, Acts Community School, and Ocean of Light International School, and members of the diplomatic corps, including Chinese Ambassador HE Liu Weimin, and Japanese Ambassador HE Inagaki Hisao, among others.
