Lulutai’s Y12 aircraft will be returning to service this week following the reinstatement of its certificate of airworthiness by the Pacific Aviation Safety Office (PASO) and Tonga's Civil Aviation Division (CAD).

The Y12 aircraft has been grounded since December last year, due to non-compliance issues with engineering works, said the Minister for Public Enterprises, Hon. Piveni Piukala, at a media briefing on Friday, 3 May, at the Prime Minister’s Office, in Nuku'alofa.

The Y12 aircraft is scheduled to resume its services to the Niuas, beginning tomorrow, 6 May. This will be in addition to the Twin Otter and the chartered Saab aircraft, which currently serve Ha’apai and Vava’u.

Meanwhile, the Minister for Public Enterprises is expect to advertise the new Chief Executive Officer position for Lulutai Airlines Limited this week, as the temporary contract of the current CEO, Tevita Palu, is nearing its conclusion.
