Highlights from Tonga's newspapers, April 3-10, 2008. An English translation summary by Tevita Fonua.

The Taimi on April 7 quotes Westpac officials as saying that Mishka Tu'ifua's tenure as manager is noted as the most prosperous in the bank's history, in terms of profitability and volume of loans.

Parliamentarian 'Akilisi Pohiva is warning of trouble ahead for the coronation, if change is not implemented in 2008, according to the Taimi.

The Kele'a on April 9 published purported email exchanges between Prime Minister Feleti Sevele and Westpac Bank of Tonga General Manager Mishka Tu'ifua, in relation to a deposit of $5 million by the government.

The Talaki on April 9 reveals that the annual salary of Qudus Fielea, the head coach of the national rugby union team, is $150,000; high performance unit manager Angus Naupoto earns $130,000.

The Talaki comments that politicos are not relenting in threatening the government with the kind of protests that caused 16/11. A writer in the Kele'a had proposed repeatedly the importance of implementing change outside of the Legislative Assembly. The Tongan government has since announced that it is looking at the story, to consider its abetment of unrest content.

The Kalonikali on April 10 reports that King George Tupou V is visiting China at the invitation of President Hu Jintao.

The Taimi on April 10 reports that the Langafonua Tu'uloa Party, led by lawyer Sione Fonua, is proposing that districts are administered by district officers and teams of elected councillors.
