The tabling of a Motion for a Vote of No Confidence in the Prime Minister Hon. Siaosi Sovaleni (Hu'akavameiliku) has been postponed to Monday 9 December, after the Prime Minister requested more time to file a response, the Chief Clerk of the Legislative Assembly stated tonight.
Initially, the Lord Speaker had given the Hon. Prime Minister until 12 noon Friday 29 November 2024 to submit a written reply, and the motion was set to be tabled next Tuesday 3 December.
The Chief Clerk said the postponed tabling of the No Confidence Motion in Parliament to Monday 9 December 2024, “is still well within the legal timeframe for tabling the motion as specified in clause 50B of the Constitution as well as the Rules of Procedures of the Legislative Assembly.”
“The postponement was approved by a resolution of Parliament that was obtained through circulation to Members of Parliament. This is to facilitate the Hon. Prime Ministerʻs request to the House for an extension of time to submit a written reply to the No Confidence Motion.
“The Hon. Prime Minister now has until 12noon on Wednesday 4 December 2024 to provide a written reply to the Motion”.
