The Flying Fijians entered the Asahi Super Dry Pacific Nations Cup semi-finals after defeating Tonga’s ‘Ikale Tahi 50-19 on Friday, at Teufaiva Stadium in Nuku’alofa.

Fiji showcased skills and determination to win the game despite a challenging first half. They now enter the semi-finals with Samoa from Pool A, in the rugby union competition.

“We discussed our discipline. We let Tonga back into the game towards the end of the first half. With a powerful side like Tonga, if you give them a bit of space, they’ll take it. Our key focus was to maintain discipline and control, which we managed to do in the second half," Flying Fijians Captain, Tevita Ikanivere told Fiji Rugby.

Meanwhile, Tonga will now head into the match to decide 4^th and 5th places. Their opponents will be determined after the completion of Pool B games that consists of USA, Canada and Japan.

'Ikale Tahi's Captain Ben Tameifuna said, “It’s always tough playing against our Fijian brothers. As I mentioned in previous weeks, this game is just a stepping stone for us. Our main goal is the World Cup in Australia. We’re giving young players an opportunity and hoping to build on today’s performance.”

'Ikale Tahi scored three tries from Fetuli Paea, Fine Inisi, and Patrick Pellegrini, who also scored two conversion goals.

HRH Crown Prince Tupouto’a ‘Ulukalala attended the game, and presented a match trophy to the Flying Fijians.
