There have been no new ash emissions recorded at the Home Reef volcano as monitoring continues, the Tonga Geological Services (TGS) reported today, 1 July.
However, the satellite monitoring system has detected an increase in the thermal anomalies with four (4) new readings since the last report.
"The latest imagery from the MODIS MIROVA satellite depicts a slight increase in the Volcanic Radiative Power (VRP) of the thermal anomalies (Figure 2)."
"The volcanic activity poses a low risk to the Vavau and Ha'apai Communities."
TGS advises all Mariners to sail beyond a safe distance of 4 km from Home Reef until further notice.
Home Reef is located 25 km southwest of Late Island, 22 km northeast of Lateiki (Metis Shoal), and 75 km northwest of Mo'ungaone Island at Latitude & Longitude 18.992°S 8 174.775°.
