FICAC unravels corruption in Fiji [1]

Suva, Fiji

Friday, February 15, 2008 - 05:25.  Updated on Wednesday, July 22, 2015 - 14:04.

Fiji Commission Against Corruption (FICAC) Deputy Commissioner George Langman says more prominent people are expected to face corruption-related charges.

Speaking during an open day organized for the media this morning, Langman said the commission has received more than 1000 complaints since its inception last year.

He also defended the commission against claims that it is only targeting Soqosoqo Duavata ni Lewenivanua (the SDL party of ousted Prime Minister Laisenia Qarase) party supporters, saying FICAC will investigate anyone, including members of the Interim Government.

Langman added they are making final preparations for the extradition of former Fiji Sports Council chief executive Alice Tabete and former Fiji Broadcasting Commission chief executive Francis Herman.

"Once everything is ready, we will ask Foreign Affairs where she is and then we will issue accordingly - because we have extradition treaties with several countries.

"Yes, we'll get him back as well, we're working on that." Radio Fiji Online/Pacific Media Watch, 14/02/08.
