The body of an unidentified man was found washed up on the western foreshore of Queen Salote Wharf on Saturday morning, February 9.
Assistant Police Commander and Officer in Charge of Crime and Operation 'Unga Fa'aoa said today, the corpse was sighted by workers at the wharf who reported it to the police around 7-8am on Saturday.
The remains were in bad condition, and police believe the person had been dead for some time.
He said the deceased was male, probably between 25-35 years old, and believed to be a foreigner, judging from the dark colour of his skin, but the police will not be able to confirm this until he is identified.
So far, there have been no reports from vessels of missing workers but there was one missing person report filed this morning that might match the description of the deceased, however this was still being looked at by the police.
'Unga said the man's clothing was still in good shape, which included a yellow t-shirt with a rugby collar, blue jeans and a "Bourbon Woodstock" sun hat.
The police are appealing to the local public for any information that might identify this man. The remains will be kept at the Vaiola Mortuary for identification before an inquest is conducted.
The Assistant Police Commander said they had not determined the cause of death but he confirmed there were no signs of assault or injuries inflicted on the body.
