A new program to inspire young women in the fields of science, technology, engineering, the arts, and mathematics (STEAM) is supported by the US government.
The first STEAM Princess camp in Tonga was launched by the United States Ambassador Marie C. Damour on 10 April at the USP-Tonga campus.
The U.S. Embassy granted USD $100,000 to Fiji STEAM Princess, to conduct this camp for girls in both Fiji and in Tonga.
Ambassador Damour acknowledged the significance of STEAM education in today’s world, in fields that have traditionally been dominated by men. "Initiatives like this are breaking down barriers and paving the way for greater gender equality in science and technology," she said.
"By empowering women and girls to pursue careers in STEAM, we not only unlock new opportunities for individual growth, but also promote prosperity and stability in our societies."
The U.S. Embassy is partnering with USP, Fiji STEAM Princess, and Tonga Women in Information and Communication Technologies (TWICT), in conducting educational camps for high schools in Tonga.
