Three Cancer organizations today received a donation of $500 pa'anga each from the Fe'ofa'aki Foundation, a charity group who assists in the cause of cancer.

The recipients were the Tonga Breast Cancer Society, the Tonga Cancer Society and the Child Cancer Foundation of Tonga.

Sinai Tu'itahi, the President of the Fe'ofa'aki Foundation said today the donation is the result of a fundraising they held last December in Nuku'alofa.

She said the charity group of eight women members began in 2005 to initiate fundraising to help young cancer victim Tae Kami, who at this stage is still battling the disease.

"As we began we also developed a broad objective to help those in need, but we have since scoped it down to focus mainly on cancer," said Sinai.

The three cancer organisations although are bound by the same cause, have cover different areas.

Christine 'Uta'atu the Secretary for the Breast Cancer Society said their focus is on advocacy, which is creating awareness and providing support for women who suffer from breast cancer but are afraid to seek medical care.

She said with this donation they could use it to hold awareness meetings in villages and get nurses and doctors to speak on the topic.

The Tonga Cancer Society chaired by Dr Sunia Foliaki works with people who have cancer, offering rehabilitation or medical aid.

Moala Sisifa of the Child Cancer Foundation of Tonga said their eight members including herself are parents of children who are cancer victims.

"Our work focus is on the children who are suffering cancer and this donation provides us with a means to help their families in whatever way we can," she said.
