The Tonga Circular Economy System (Tonga CES) officially commissioned its project Biogas Laboratory on 1 February, 2024, at the Ministry of Agriculture Food & Forests, Ma’ufanga, Tonga.
The CEO of Agriculture and Chairman of Tonga CES, Dr Viliami Manu said the biogas lab is a stepping stone for Tonga CES. It will provide the Ministry with estimates for renewable energy production, and how much resources such as animal and organic wastes are needed.
Hesaid that at COP28 in Dubai last year, member countries were called to move towards using cleaner and sustainable energy. "This today, is a response to that call," he said.
Meanwhile, FWE CEO and Managing Director, Mr Pierre Haider said his biogas technology would help developing and remote countries to become energy sustained.
"This [Tonga CES] is important because it really is a circular concept, its benefits circle back to the people."
Biotech Engineer, Karen Guerrero, has worked with MAFF officers and taught them how to monitor the lab daily. It can also be controlled remotely, with a camera inside the lab with internet connection, so monitoring can be easily done from anywhere, anytime.
Similar FWE biogas concept projects have been done in Ecuador and Colombia.
