Tonga and Austria establishing diplomatic relations [1]

Tonga is establishing diplomatic relations with Austria, through its Canberra mission. The Ambassador of Austria to Australia, HE Elisabeth Kögler was this week welcomed to Tonga's diplomatic office in Australia.

The Acting High Commissioner of Tonga to Australia, Curtis Tuihalangingie met with the Ambassador to talk about the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two governments.

Austria has no diplomatic mission in Tonga at the moment.

Mr Tuihalangingiesaid they talked about common interests and important sectors in Tonga that Austria could invest in, like Communications, and climate resilience projects.

It was expected that HE Kögler will be appointed Ambassador to Tonga soon, and will travel to here to meet with the King and the Prime Minister.

Austria is also considering the appointment of an honorary consul for Tonga.
