A fishing boat was handed over to the community of Talafo'ou by the Chinese Embassy, to help promote sustainable development in Tongatapu 10 constituency.
The Embassy's Charge d'Affaires ad interim Mr. Ruan Dewen handed over the boat to the community of Talafo'ou in a ceremony, last week, 11 January.
Receiving the boat was the estate holder of Talafo'ou, Hon. Lauaki who thanked the Chinese Embassy for their assistance.
Mr. Dewen noted the boat is essential for the people’s livelihood in the coastal village.
“We are glad to help the Tongan people to make a better living, and hope the fishing boat is conducive for the village to achieve sustainable development,” he said.
Mr. Dewen said they also contributed to Tonga’s one million tree initiative from last year, in support of Tonga’s fighting against climate change.
He noted this year marks the 26th Anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and Tonga, and reaffirmed the importance to China of the one-China principle and Tonga’s support in international arena.
“Mutual support is ever more important. China strives for building a community with a shared future for the mankind, and we call for an equal and orderly multipolar world and a universally beneficial and inclusive economic globalisation. Only in an equal and orderly world, only when every country benefits from globalisation, challenges such as climate change can be met by concerted efforts. We all should bear in mind that we are in the same boat, and we belong to same community of shared future and destiny," he stated
Attending the ceremony were the People’s Representative of Tongatapu 10, Hon. Kapeli Lanumata; the Talafo'ou Estate Holder Hon. Lauaki; and town officers with the community of Talafo'ou and Tongatapu 10.
