Two Niuas achieve 100% pass rate for Tonga National F7 Certificate [1]

The best performing schools for the Tonga National Form Seven Certificate (TNFSC) 2023 exams were Niuatoputapu High School and Niuafo‘ou High School, who both achieved a passing rate of 100%, the Prime Minister Hon. Hu'akavameiliku said today.

The TNFSC exam results  released by the Ministry of Education yesterday, 4 January 2024, showed that the overall pass rate for the nation had risen to 83% compared to 63% in 2022.

A total of 505 candidates registered in 2023 to qualify for the TNFSC exam. To pass this exam, the candidate is required to reach the “Achieve Grade” in English and three of their best subjects.

Candidate results are presented in various Achievement Grade Levels: Distinction (93-100%), Excellence (77-92%), Merit (55-76%), Achieve (43-54%), Beginner (less than 43%). Candidate scores are not part of the results.

Eight out of 20 subjects offered by the TNFSC had candidates achieving the Distinction grade level. These included Accounting (1), Chinese Language (1), Computing and ICT (1), Economics (1), Lea FakaTonga (2), Mathematics with Calculus (1), Mathematics with Statistics (3), Tonga mo e Anga Fakafonua (2).

Five candidates from Tonga High School attained a Distinction in one or more of the subjects. The pass rate for Tonga High School was 91%.

Apart from the best performing schools, the most improved school from 2022 to 2023 was Tonga College (improved by 56%).

St. Peter Chanel College (Kelana), a new entrance to the TNFSC, attained a 78% on pass rate.

At a media briefing today at St George Government Building, the Prime Minister (and Minister of Education) said the overall pass rate for 2023 was 83% compared to 63% in 2022.

The re-score process opens on Tuesday 9 and closes on Tuesday 23 January, 2024.
