The Nuku’alofa Registrar of Marriages, Births and, Deaths was busy this morning, as couples come in to register their nuptials, in the last week before government offices close for the Christmas holidays on 20 December.

A Registry clerk, told Matangi Tonga that December has been the busiest month this year, with many marriages being registered every day.

“We’re very busy right now, there’s a lot of weddings around the holiday season and a lot of couples show up every day.”

She said that marriages can be registered any day of the week including, Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays.

However, the busiest days of the week for the registry office are Thursdays.

Due to application requirements and their busy schedule, the official number of registered marriages for the year so far, has not been released by the office.
