Harder to reapply for a Tonga law licence in January [1]

Nuku'alofa, Tonga

Monday, December 10, 2007 - 19:45.  Updated on Tuesday, April 22, 2014 - 15:55.

A revision of the licence of the New Zealand lawyer Christopher Harder to practice in Tonga is still being looked at by Christopher's representative in Tonga, Clive Edwards and the President of the Tonga Law society, Laki Niu, said the Registrar of the Tongan Supreme Court, Manako Vi.

The licence became an issue early last month, after New Zealand media questioned how unusual it was for Tonga to issue Christopher Harder with a licence while he was disbarred in New Zealand. (See earlier article. [2])

Manako Vi said last Friday that Christopher is reapplying to be readmitted to practice law in New Zealand, and Clive and Laki were still, "talking about Harder's licence to practice in Tonga."

Christopher Harder will have to reapply in January for a new licence to practice in Tonga, Manako said.
