Taniela Fusimalohi, the Director for the Ministry of Training, Employment, Youth and Sports.

A national Sports Week and a Hall of Fame, two new initiatives of the Ministry of Training, Employment, Youth and Sports, will be launched on Sunday, December 2.

Taniela Fusimalohi, the Director for the Ministry of Training, Employment, Youth and Sports said yesterday, that the sports week was well supported by youth groups and primary schools in Tongatapu.

Already, 14 sports teams, most of them church youth groups from the Catholic Church, the Free Wesleyan Church of Tonga, the Tonga Free Church and the Chiefly Church of Tonga, have registered.

Registration will remain open until Friday, November 30.

Hall of Fame

Taniela said they have not received any nominations for the Hall of Fame and that nominations close on November 30.

The procedure is for various sports clubs to make nominations. An independent committee outside the Ministry will then select the names to be honoured at the Hall of Fame, which will be housed at the 'Atele Indoor Stadium.

Taniela said they were hoping that eight or nine names would be selected for Tonga's first Hall of Fame.
