A programme funding agreement for the construction of three community halls and a donation of 18 small and 12 medium scale boats with outboard motors was signed by the Government of Tonga and the Nippon Foundation in Tokyo, Japan on 24 August.

The funding will go to agreed recovery projects as a response to the HTHH volcanic eruption and tsunami on 15 January 2022.

The agreement was signed by the Ambassador of Tonga to Japan HE, Tevita Suka Mangisi and the President of the Nippon Foundation,  Mr. Takeju Ogata.
