A tree planting project around the coastal areas and homes of Kolofo’ou, Fanga o Pilolevu, Havelu and Tofoa (Vahenga Tongatapu 2), under MEIDECC, is into its second week.

The project began on 1 August 2023, carried out by TPR-2 office. A variety of different trees planted along the coastlines includes Toa, Touhuni, Milo, Fāfā and others. The plants help in the conservation of the land and the prevention of soil/land erosion.

“Not only is this great for land erosion prevention but the trees planted can also be used for Tongan traditional medicinal purposes,” said a spokesperson for the representative’s office.

“Milo is one of the very rare plants and it’s usually only found in ‘Eua, it has great medicinal properties that us Tongans have been using for generations.”
