Two new JICA volunteers arrived in Tonga, last week to work at Tongatapu secondary schools for six months starting in mid-August.

Ms. Motomi Uehara will teach at Tupou College and Ms. Kana Nakamura at Tonga High School, where they aim to improve the quality of Japanese Language Education, as well as promote the spread of Japanese culture in Tonga.

Japanese Language Education in Tonga began in 1986, and many Japanese volunteers have laid the foundation for Japanese Language Education in Tonga since then, said JICA.

The Japanese language is currently offered as an elective course at eight educational institutions in Tonga.
