Tonga’s graceful solo dances and traditional dance costumes were on show at the Miss Heilala Tau‘olunga competition on Wednesday night, 5 July, at the Sir Sofele Kakala Hall, in Ma’ufanga.

A full house enjoyed the performances of the female solo dances, accompanied by harmonious singing from the their Tongan clubs. A requirement was that they must dance to a composition of the late Queen Salote Tupou III.

The top five contestants annonced in random order:

• Contestant #6 Miss Fia Dance Academy, Halamehi Tu’imana
• Contestant #8 Miss Brilliant Star Silapeluua, Lata Naeata
• Contestant #10 Miss ‘Eua Masani, Sitita Va’enuku
• Contestant #11 Miss Lady Maria Tonga Australia, Angaefonu 'Uhatafe

This contestants' were judged on their ability to perform the tau'olunga, ability to balance their body with grace and movements, while interpreting the song appropriately through motions and emotions.

The panel of judges for this category were Pasemata Vi Taunisila, Tevita Fauonuku, Fuiva Kavaliku, Ane Leisia Vi, and Vai’ufia Takau.

The new Miss Heilala 2023 will be crowned tonight, 6 July, during a ball.
