Twenty boat engines (90hp) were donated by the Guangdong Province, China to different organizations at the Ministry of Fisheries on 23 May.

The PMO stated that the boat engines are worth about $900,000 Tongan Paanga in total. They were presented to a number of people, churches, organizations and communities.

“This will facilitate Tonga’s development in improving people’s livelihoods and enable achieving Government Priority Goals. This will also further enhance the relationship between the Tonga and China.”

This is a further presentation of boat engines after the Tonga Government received 20 boat engines of 90 horsepower (hp) worth TOP$900,000 in a Handover Ceremony at Fa’onelua Convention Centre, on 31 March 2023.

The Chinese Ambassador to Tonga, HE Mr. Cao Xiaolin presented the 20 boat engines on behalf of the Dongguan City and his country to the Hon. Prime Minister Hu’akavameiliku.

Hon. Hu’akavameiliku extended sincere gratitude to the People's Government of Dongguan City and the People’s Republic of China.
