A flotilla of yachts docked at the Fāua Wharf, Tongatapu today, 19 May 2023, the first to return for the Cruise Rally after a four year break due to the COVID-19 outbreak and pandemic.
Among them is the SV BINX, the OCEANIS 473 and three other yachts. The BINX has been in and out of Tonga and has also attended previous Cruise Rallies in the Kingdom.
Crew members of the BINX told Matangi Tonga that it took them six days of non-stop sailing from Opua, New Zealand to reach Tonga. Admitting that although it was “a bit of a struggle at first” one crew said that he enjoyed the trip.
"Good, lovely - if you pick the weather it'll come nicely, if you don't then it'll be hard work," said Rick.
Tonga’s Ministry of Tourism confirmed today that the rally is delayed from tomorrow, 20 May to 25 May. More yachts are expected to dock at the Fāua Wharf tomorrow, Saturday 20 May 2023.
