The By-Election to elect a new People's Representative to the Tonga Legislative Assembly for the Tongatapu 10 constituency will be held on Thursday, 13 July.

This is to fill the seat vacated by the late Hon. Pohiva Tu’i’onetoa (71) who passed away on 18 March this year. A former Prime Minister from 2019-2021, he passed away in the United States, after going there for medical reasons in late 2022.

On 11 May, the writ of election was issued by the Speaker of the Legislative Assembly, Lord Fakafanua to the Electoral Commission. 

This was after the Lord Speaker consulted with the Chairman of the Electoral Commission, Rt. Hon. Lord Dalgety K.C as required by the Legislative Assembly Act.
