The Legislative Assembly of Tonga which convened on Wednesday 10 May was adjourned to resume on Monday, 15 May after a day of deliberations.

Parliament reported the adjournment is to allow them to welcome a visiting Foreign Affairs Defence and Trade Select Committee from the New Zealand Parliament today.

After deliberations the Annual Report of the Auditor General 2021-22 was passed by the Whole House Committee on 10 May. (Voting against it were 'Aisake Eke, Mateni Tapueluelu, 'Uhilamoelangi Fasi, Taniela Fusimalohi and Lord Nuku).

Other pending items with the Whole House Committes is the Annual Report of the Ministry of Internal Affairs 2021-2022 and Constituency Reports for Tongatapu 8, Ha’apai 12, Tongatapu 5, Tongatapu 6 and Vava’u 14 constituencies. 

Visit

The Speaker Lord Fakafanua today met with the New Zealand Parliament Committee members, who are conducting an inquiry on illegal, unregulated and unreported fishing.

It is Chaired by New Zealand parliamentarian Hon Jenny Salesa who came with parliamentarians Todd Muller and Golriz Ghahraman and their support staff.

The NZ committee also met with members of the Legislative Assembly of Tonga Standing Committee on Foreign Affairs, Defence and Trade and Standing Committee on Agriculture and Fisheries, at the Parliament House.
