Students of Government schools throughout Tonga held various tree planting programs to mark the London coronation of King Charles III and Queen Camilla, on Saturday, 6 May.
The Ministry of Education and Training stated today that the 'tree planting' of ten thousand plants was by students and staff of all Government Schools of Tonga from primary to secondary schools of Tongatapu and the outer islands (Vava'u, Ha'apai, ‘Eua and the two Niuas).
The plants were provided by the Ministry of Agriculture (MAFF) not only for the special commemoration but also to assist the Government of Tonga's initiative and aim to plant one million trees over the next three-years.
British High Commissioner Lucy Joyce also planted a tree at Tonga High School, during the program's short launch in Nuku'alofa on Saturday. In attendance was the CEO of the Ministry Education, ‘Isikeli Oko and other education officials.
MET also extended its support to MAFF's tree planting project and HM Queen Nanasipau'u Pencil Seed Planting initiative.
