The government's electricity price subsidy is continuing to the March 2023 quarter to reduce the burden of high electricity prices for all households, including businesses.

It was announced that the cost of subsidies for Jan-Feb 2023 should be reflected and settled together in March 2023 billing, allowing for the reconciliations noting that some customers have already paid their bills.

The government subsidy will cover both categories:

1. Residential customers whose units of consumption are less than 150 kWh  
2. A well as customers whose units consumbtion are above 150kWh in March 2023.

The December 2022 review indicated that the electricity tariff would decrease from 1.19 per kWh to $1.01 per kWh, effective from 1 January 2023 is less than an average monthly of a million in the past six months. 

A source from the Ministry of Finance told Matangi Tonga, “The Government plans to continue supporting Tonga power with subsidy until June, the main goal is to help the people." 

"Koe hokohoko atu 'a e tokoni koeni e makatu'unga ia mei he tu'unga e 'iai ae lolo he a'u ki Sune" [The continuum of this support will depend on the price of oil by the month of June].
