Princess visits Tongan fruit pickers in Tasmania [1]

Princess Angelika Lātūfuipeka Tuku’aho, Tonga’s High Commissioner to Australia, tried her hand at picking and packing raspberries when she visited Tongan fruit pickers, at the Costa Berry Farm in Devonport, Tasmania, on Saturday, 18 March.

The Princess wanted to see for herself the important work carried out by not only our fruit pickers but those from other Pacific Islands. After observing the process, she joined one of the Tongan groups to pick, pack and process the raspberries for the shops.

There are some 600 Tongans working in several groups at this farm, stated Tonga's Mission in Canberra today.

Warmly welcomed by the farm's management, Princess Angelika acknowledged the hard work carried by our people to earn money. She said it is a blessing not only for their families in Tonga but for the country, as a whole.

The Tongan fruit pickers said they appreciated her special care and attention to them and their work.

At the same time, more than 300 Tongan workers joined Princess Angelika for a Po Lotu (Prayer) on Sunday night, 19 March.
