A 63-year-old man who was a passenger in the back of a vehicle died from a crash on a road between Leimatu’a to Holonga in Vava’u on Friday night, 10 March.

Deputy Commissioner of Police Tevita Vailea said today the crash occured before midnight. Alcohol is alleged to have been involved.

“The information we have now alleged that the deceased was at the back of this open area vehicle like truck. The driver allegedly crashed into a bush area on the side of the road, and the deceased fell out causing severe injuries leading to his death.”

The 40-year-old driver from Holonga is charged with reckless driving causing death.

This the first road fatality so far for the year.
