Boy on bicycle killed by negligent driver [1]

Tohitangi Manu, a man in his mid 40's, was found guilty of manslaughter by a jury of seven at the Nuku'alofa Supreme Court on October 1.

Manu was charged with manslaughter by negligence for causing the death of 13 year old ‘Aspeli Vaipulu, when the car he was driving hit the deceased who was riding his bicycle along Vuna Road at Sopu, on 8 February 2003.

Mr Justice Ford said that he would pass his sentence on November 12 when he returned from Vava‘u.

Manu, from Kolofo'ou was a linesman for Shoreline Power Distribution but he was since let go due to the accident. He is currently released on bail.
