Dr Pita Taufatofua, Governor of Ha‘apai, installed [1]

Dr Pita Faiva Taufatofua was installed as the new Governor of Ha’apai, at the Tongaleleka Free Wesleyan Church in Ha’apai, on 24 January.
The Prime Minister Hon. Hu'akavameiluki, who was visiting Ha'apai, form 24-25 January, read out the appoinment letter. A celebration was held by the Taufatofua family, including his son Tongan Olympian and Olympic flagbearer, Pita Taufatofua Junior.
He was appointed by King Tupou VI as Governor of Ha'apai on the 28 December 2021. A family celebration was set to be held in January 2022 but was delayed because of the Hunga Tonga-Hunga Ha'apai volcanic eruption and tsunami, stated the Prime Minister's Office.
The Prime Minister was making his first official visit, as leader of Government.
He was reported to have visited reconstruction of houses on Nomuka, Fonoifua and the Lulunga, which were damaged by the January 15 eruption and tsunami. He also met with district and town officers.
