The Zuiderdam cruise ship arrived Nuku'alofa for an overnight visit on 27 October bringing over 2000 passengers and crew.
The Ministry of Tourism stated this is the fourth cruise ship to visit Tonga, since the border fully re-opened last month.
Docked at Vuna wharf, Zuiderdam brought a total of 2345 passengers and crew members from its last port, Fiji for an overnight visit. It is expected to depart at 5:00pm, 28 October for the Cook Islands.
The local tourism industry was hit hard when borders closed, due to the COVID-19 pandemic but with cruise ships arriving, it is on the road to recovery.
On 27 September, after two-years six-months, Tonga finally lifted most of its health requirements, resulting in full border re-opening for both air and sea arrivals.
The only health requirement mandatory now is proof of vaccination for foreigners age 12 years and above before entry.
