Foreign Minister, Hon. Fekitamoeloa 'Utoikamanu represented Tonga at the 5th Korea-Pacific Islands Foreign Ministers' Meeting held in Busan, South Korea on 26 October.
 
Chaired by the Korean Foreign Minister H.E. Mr Park, the meeting focused on strategic discussions on Tonga's national and regional priorities including climate change, disasters and environment and ocean and maritime affairs

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Nuku'alofa stated, “Tonga became the first Pacific Island country to establish diplomatic relations with the Republic of Korea on 15 September 1970, a testament to the strong and longstanding relations between our two countries.”

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Korea stated, “At the same time, the meeting served as an opportunity for Korea to strengthen its role as a global pivotal state and further deepen the network for cooperation with the Pacific Island Countries,” stated

A Joint Outcomes Statement has been adopted concluding the meeting.

Tonga's Foreign Affairs Minister is expected to travel to Seoul to hold bilateral meetings with the President of the Republic of Korea and Foreign Minister.

She is accompanied by Ministry of Foreign Affairs senior officials, HSH Princess Kalaniuvalu, Lady Fotofili and Elsie Fukofuka.
