At 57-years-old, Sunia Fili received his law degree, LLB, from the University of the South Pacific, Laucala campus in Fiji earlier this month.
A former Minister of Finance and 'Eua People's Representative to the Legislative Assembly of Tonga, Fili began his university education in 1986 as a foundation-level student. He graduated in 1989 with a Bachelor of Arts majoring in accounting economics.
USP stated today that Mr Fili then taught at the Tongan Government's secondary school level for 10-years before entering politics as 'Eua's MP.
Fili said when he was appointed in 2010 as the Minister for Finance, he was studying law at the diploma level.
“In 2015, I wished to continue my education after achieving a postgraduate certificate, and a postgraduate diploma from USP. I wanted to get my MBA. If I can continue to pursue my education at this age, I encourage young people who have so much more energy, focus and drive to stay course and work to achieve their goals.”
He said some young people were still deciding what to do in life, but with information readily available through technology, he urged youths to find their niche and pursue their education, as it will undoubtedly shape their future.
