Human remains found at Vaipua Harbour in Vava'u [1]

Tonga Police are working to identify the body of a man that was found floating in Vaipua Harbour, Vava’u, on 11 October.

The Deputy Commissioner Operations Command, Tevita Vailea said police officers on the outer island responded to a report from Vaipua Bridge at around midday on Tuesday, 11 October.

"Police investigators discovered a corpse that was floating along at Vaipua harbour, which appeared to have been drifted from the ocean side of Taoa village."

Deputy Commissioner Vailea confirmed the deceased to be male.

Meanwhile, police investigation is underway to confirm identification with a formal inquest to follow upon completion, he said.
