Construction of nine ramps by communities in Foa, Ha‘apai, will improve access to community centres and schools for disabled people. The project was supported by the Australian Direct Aid Program with H.E. Rachel Moore marking the official completion at the Foa Health Centre on 9 September, 2022.
Foa project coordinator, Mr Falakesi Loketi said the ramps will enable access for people with disabilities, especially those on wheelchairs or with mobility challenges.
Ramps were constructed at Foa Health Centre, three schools, five churches and community halls.
Some of the buildings are used as evacuation centres for the community in times of natural disaster.
Construction materials for the project were funded by the Australian Direct Aid Program (DAP).
The Australian High Commissioner, H.E. Rachel Moore, was present to mark the official completion of the project at the Foa Health Centre, with community leaders of Foa District and people with disabilities.
Ms Moore said the work was completed to a high standard and she was thrilled with the dedication, ensuring everyone could participate in community activities.
