More than 1000 reading books, donated from Melrose High School in Canberra, were handed over to Tonga’s High Commissioner to Australia, Princess Latufuipeka Tuku’aho, on August 23 to be sent to Tonga.
The school's Principal Diana Whymark and library staff Ruth Mahon and Natasha Collins, with Tongan teacher Sione Ma’u, were welcomed by the Princess at the office of the Tonga High Commission.
The books will be donated to the Kolomotu'a Town Council, for a community library that is under construction.
The High Commission stated that the books were one of many donations received by the High Commission to assist Tonga in its recovery from the natural disasters of 15 January and Tonga is grateful for this donation.
