Tonga’s national netball team Tala has taken Tonga Netball to 9^th place in the world ranking - a historic achievement from its previous highest ranking of 19.

World Netball in announcing the ranking this month, stated that Tonga finished both the PacificAUS Series in March 2022 and the Netball World Cup Qualifier Oceania in July 2022 unbeaten.

The Talas will head to the Netball World Cup in South Africa in 2023, its first World Cup appearance.

For the world ranking, World Netball requires teams to have played six or more matches in the ranking period to be eligible.

Tonga has reached this threshold again and they now regain a world ranking, entering in 9^th place in the world. This is a remarkable achievement as their highest previous ranking was 19^th, stated World Netball.

The success of Tonga has led to Scotland moving down one place to 10^th, and Trinidad & Tobago and Northern Ireland also moving down once place to 11^th and 12^th.

Meanwhile, Australia ranks first in the world netball ranking.
